Awesome NFL Trip Ideas for the 2024 Season

To help you find the best NFL trip for your schedule, I’ve sorted these road trips by the week of the NFL schedule:

Week 1 – NFL Trips (Sept 5 – 9, 2024)

Wow! There are no shortage of excellent NFL trips in Week 1 of the 2024 NFL schedule! I’ve come up with three awesome NFL road trips for you to consider as the season opens.

Before booking any of these amazing NFL trip ideas, make sure you read my post on how to find the best seats for an NFL game.

1. Ravens @ Chiefs and Texans @ Colts

Whenever I plan my own NFL trips, I usually impose a limit of 5 hours of driving between NFL cities. But, sometimes it’s worth it to make an exception. This Week 1 NFL road trip idea takes you to Kansas City to see the Thursday Night Football NFL Season Opener when the Baltimore Ravens come to play the Chiefs – the defending Super Bowl champions! No easy game for the defending champs!

Starting Friday morning, you have 2 days to make the seven hour drive between Kansas City and Indianapolis. To break this up, I recommend stopping in St. Louis to catch the Cardinals game on Friday night.

Saturday, you can catch a legendary Division I NCAA football team take the field as the Indiana Hoosiers play the Western Illinois Leathernecks.

Then on Sunday, you’ll catch a classic AFC South clash between the Houston Texans and the Indianapolis Colts. These two teams finished the 2023 NFL season with a winning record and are going to play hard to win this important divisional battle.

Your Week 1 NFL Trip Package Itinerary

That’s 4 awesome games in 4 nights – sports road trips just don’t get better than this!!

2. Green Bay Packers vs. Philadelphia Eagles in São Paulo, Brazil!

As a Packers owner who has traveled several times to watch the Packers play on the road, I can tell you that Green Bay fans love to travel to see their team play, especially when it’s somewhere fun or exotic. And, it doesn’t get much more fun or exotic than flying to São Paulo, Brazil to see two of the best NFL teams play the very first NFL game in South America!!

The Cathedral in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
São Paulo, Brazil.

Your Week 1 International NFL Trip Package Itinerary

  • Fly into São Paulo, Brazil before the game on a date which works best for you. It’s a long way to go, so make sure you tack on some sightseeing days. Do not rent a car in São Paulo as it is one of the biggest cities in the world and reputedly has some of the worst traffic too!

  • The stadium is located quite aways from the main tourist areas of São Paulo. I’d recommend getting a good hotel in Centro São Paulo, as it is near all the tourist hotspots and has good subway connectivity to Corinthians Arena.

  • Sept 6: Make your way to the stadium to watch the Green Bay Packers play the Philadelphia Eagles. (Browse game tickets).

  • Make sure to check out the best of São Paulo before heading home. There are tons of amazing things to do in São Paulo!

3. Raiders @ Chargers and Jets @ 49ers

Ok… so it’s still only Week 1 of the 2024 NFL schedule, and this is the second time I’m going to break my 5 hour driving limit for NFL road trips. But just like the Chiefs road trip above, this one is worth it! Plus, this NFL road trip is in sunny California – one of the best places in the US for a vacation, let alone catching two awesome NFL games!

You’ll start your Week 1 NFL road trip by catching an AFC West divisional matchup with the Los Angeles Chargers hosting the Las Vegas Raiders. (I caught a Rams game at SoFi Stadium – it’s amazing!!)

Catching a Rams game at SoFi Stadium.

Then, on Sunday morning, drive the 5.5 hours to arrive in San Francisco with plenty of time to catch the season opening Monday Night Football. This game is so important as it’s Aaron Rodgers second attempt to play more than 4 snaps for NY Jets. It’s not an easy test for the 4-time NFL MVP as they take on the San Francisco 49ers – last year’s Super Bowl runner-ups.

If you’d like to add on some additional sports action, there’s all sorts of add-on games for this NFL trip idea. For example, you can catch the Dodgers, the USC Trojans and the San Francisco Giants.

Your Week 1 NFL Road Trip Itinerary

  • Sept 5: Fly into Los Angeles and rent a car. Rather than stay at stadium hotels, pick a hotel near a beach and drive to the games.

  • Sept 6: Catch the Cleveland Guardians @ the Los Angeles Dodgers (Browse game tickets).

  • Sept 7: Catch some Div I NCAA football with the USC Trojans hosting the Utah State Aggies (Browse game tickets).

  • Sept 8: Drive to the beautiful SoFi Stadium for the AFC West matchup between the Las Vegas Raiders and the Los Angeles Chargers (Browse game tickets).

  • Sept 9: Don’t party too hard after the Chargers game as you’ll have a long drive on Sunday morning to Santa Clara. It’ll be worth it to catch Aaron Rogers and the NY Jets play the San Francisco 49ers on Monday Night Football! (Browse game tickets and Levi’s Stadium hotels)

  • Sept 10: What the heck… let’s keep going! If you have the time, you can stay in San Francisco and catch the Giants host the Milwaukee Brewers. (Browse game tickets and Oracle Park hotels).

5 games in 5 days! Again, an incredible sports road trip idea featuring NFL, MLB and NCAA football!

Week 2 – NFL Trips (Sept 12 – 16, 2024)

4. Bills @ Dolphins & Browns @ Jaguars

My first NFL trip idea for week 2 of the schedule begins with Thursday Night Football in sunny Miami, when the Dolphins host the Buffalo Bills in primetime. Then leisurely way your way north to catch the Cleveland Browns visit the Jacksonville Jaguars in a Sunday afternoon game.

This awesome NFL road trip catches 3 teams which finished last season with 11 wins (and the Jags also had 9 wins, so not too shabby either!)

In-between the two NFL games this week, there’s an opportunity to catch the Miami Hurricanes NCAA football game on Saturday. I’d drive at least halfway to Jacksonville after the Hurricanes game.

A colorful Miami sign sits in front of hte Hard Rock Stadium, home of the Miami Dolphins NFL team.

Your Week 2 NFL Road Trip Itinerary

  • Sept 12: Fly into Miami and get a rental car. Given you will be going to two games at the Hard Rock Stadium, I’d look for a hotel in-between the stadium and the beach. Remember, the less you spend on hotels, the better seats you can get for the games!

Once you are settled. head on over to the Hard Rock Stadium to catch the Thursday Night Football game between the Bills and the Dolphins. (Browse game tickets)

  • Sept 13: Enjoy a free day in Miami. For fun, why not try a Moonlit ATV Adventure or a Little Havana Food Tour?

  • Sept 14: Time for some Division I NCAA football. Make your way back to the Hard Rock Stadium to catch the Miami Hurricanes host the Ball State University Cardinals. (Browse game tickets).

Drive some or all of the way to Jacksonville after the Hurricanes game.

  • Sept 15: Head on over to EverBank Stadium to catch the AFC game between the Browns and the Jags. (Browse game tickets and EverBank Stadium hotels).

3 football games featuring some of the best teams in the sport – not a bad way to spend 4 days in the sun!

Week 3 – NFL Trips (Sept 19 – 24, 2024)

5. NFL Triple Header – Jets, Browns, Bills and more!

My week 3 NFL trip idea is one of those rare opportunities where you can catch 3 NFL games all in the same week! I did this once when I caught games in Dallas, Houston and New Orleans in a single weekend, and it was awesome!!

This rare NFL triple header begins with a Thursday Night Matchup in New York, when Aaron Rodgers and the New York Jets host the New England Patriots on Thursday Night Football.

You’ll be rewarded for a yucky 6 hour drive on Friday with an Aerosmith concert in Pittsburgh (the opening night of their 2024 US tour!).

On Saturday, spend the day at the Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame, before catching the New York Giants visit the Cleveland Browns on Sunday afternoon.

I’d leave after the Browns game and drive to Buffalo. Being there Monday morning means you can visit Niagara Falls before seeing the Jacksonville Jaguars visit the Bills on Monday Night Football!

My first game at Highmark Stadium in Buffalo.

Note: To pull off this NFL road trip, there is one day with a 6 hour drive. If this is too much, you could easily shorten this trip to do just the Sunday and Monday games…

Your Week 3 NFL Road Trip Itinerary

  • Anytime: New York City is one of my favorite places on Earth. Pick an arrival date which works best for your schedule. You wont regret spending extra time in the Big Apple! If you are spending extra days here, I’d recommend getting a hotel in Midtown.

  • Sept 19: Make your way across the Hudson River to MetLife Stadium to watch Aaron Rodgers and the Jets host the Patriots on Thursday Night Football. (Browse game tickets)

  • Sept 20: Grab a coffee and make your way to Pittsburgh to catch the opening night of the 2024 Aerosmith tour! (Browse concert tickets and PPG Paints Arena hotels)

  • Sept 21: Make your way to Cleveland and visit the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame. (Cleveland Browns Stadium hotels)

  • Sept 22: Sunday afternoon you can catch the New York Giants play the Cleveland Browns. (Browse game tickets and Highmark Stadium hotels)

After the Browns game, make the 3 hour drive to Buffalo.

  • Sept 23: Spend your day in Buffalo visiting Niagara Falls. Try the famous Maid of the Mist, or bring your passport and hop on over to Canadian side.

Then make your way to Highmark Stadium to catch the Monday Night Football matchup between the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Buffalo Bills. (Browse game tickets)

And there you have it… a very rare chance to catch 3 NFL games back-to-back!

A Monday Night Game in Cleveland on Halloween!

I did a version of this road trip recently, when I caught the Packers in Buffalo on Sunday Night, followed by the Bengals @ Cleveland on Monday Night. It was awesome! I’ve written two posts which will help you plan this NFL Road Trip:

Week 4 – NFL Trips (Sept 26 – 30, 2024)

6. New York City Sports Trip – Yankees, Giants and Jets!

New York City is my favorite city on Earth, so I get very excited for an NFL road trip!

Your NYC NFL road trip begins with a classic MLB showdown at Yankee Stadium when the Orioles come to town to play the Yankees.

The next day, catch a game between two of the NFL’s biggest rivals when the Dallas Cowboys play the New York Giants in a primetime game on Thursday Night Football.

You have countless ways to spend your time in NYC on Friday and Saturday. You could catch another Yankees game (this time against the Pittsburgh Pirates), or you could go on a tour to see the many famous sights in the City That Never Sleeps.

When Sunday afternoon rolls around, you’ll return to MetLife Stadium to catch the Denver Broncos play Aaron Rodgers and the New York Jets.

With 2 NFL games, 1-2 Yankees games and even a Korn concert, this NFL trip to NYC is a great one!

Your Week 4 NFL Road Trip Itinerary

Anytime: As you already know, NYC is one of my favorite cities on Earth, so come early if you can. You may be interested to know that nu metal gods Korn are playing NYC on Sept 23!

No matter when you arrive in NYC, I’d recommend getting a hotel in Midtown. It’s close to most of the attractions and is easy to get anywhere by subway.

Sept 25: Spend the day sightseeing, then hop on the subway for a night game at Yankee Stadium between the Baltimore Orioles and the New York Yankees (Browse game tickets)

Sept 26: You’ve got another primetime game on the docket today, so head out on a NYC food tour before heading to MetLife Stadium to see the legendary Dallas Cowboys play the New York Giants on Thursday Night Football. (Browse game tickets)

Sept 27: The Mets are out of town, so why not head back to Yankee Stadium to see the Yankees take on the Pittsburgh Pirates? (Browse game tickets)

Sept 28: Spend the day seeing all the top attractions in NYC, such as the SUMMIT ONE Vanderbilt Experience, the Empire State Building, the 9/11 Memorial Museum, and much more. It’s recommended that you buy your admission tickets in advance.

Sept 29: Your NFL trip to NYC concludes on Sunday afternoon when you catch Sean Payton’s Denver Broncos take on the New York Jets. (Browse game tickets)

I’m always confident recommending a trip to NYC, especially when there’s great football action to watch!

Week 5 – NFL Trips (Oct 3 – 7, 2024)

7. Football and Golf Sports Trip – Falcons, Jaguars and PGA Champions!

Your Week 5 sports road trip begins in Atlanta when the Falcons host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Thursday Night Football.

On Friday, you’ll make your way to Jacksonville, Florida where you can catch the second and third rounds of the PGA Champions Tour Furyk & Friends golf tournament.

On Sunday, you’ll have to catch the final round highlights on SportsCenter as you’ll be headed to EverBank Stadium to catch the Jacksonville Jaguars host the Indianapolis Colts in an early afternoon game.

With 2 NFL games and two rounds of PGA action with some of the greatest players to have ever played, this NFL trip to the deep south is gonna be awesome!

Your Week 5 NFL Road Trip Itinerary

Oct 3: Arrive in Atlanta in the afternoon and grab a rental car. I’d recommend getting an airport hotel near Highway 75 as it will make your drive to Jacksonville shorter the next morning.

Once you are settled into your hotel, head on over to the Mercedes-Benz Stadium to catch the Thursday Night Football game between the Tampa Bay Bucs and the Atlanta Falcons (Browse game tickets).

Oct 4: Get up as early as you can on Friday morning and drive straight to the Timuquana Country Club in Jacksonville, Florida. Staying near the Atlanta Airport means you can quickly hop on the I-75 and not have to worry about battling rush hour city traffic. (Browse golf tickets)

You may miss some of the early tee-off times for Friday, but you’ll catch most of the action.

I’d recommend getting a hotel in downtown Jacksonville as it’s near EverBank Stadium, and the neighborhood around the golf course looks pretty sleepy.

I’m not sure how many of you are interested in this, but just in case, I thought I’d mention that Nicki Minaj is playing in Jacksonville tonight. (Browse concert tickets)

Oct 5: Saturday is a lazy day of wandering the Timuquana Country Club watching the third round of the PGA Champions Tour tournament.

Oct 6: Enjoy a lazy morning in Jacksonville, before heading over to EverBank Stadium to watch the AFC South match-up between the Indianapolis Colts and the Jacksonville Jaguars. (Browse game tickets)
