No matter what you’re into, I’ve tried to come up with the very best sports road trip ideas across the U.S. Gear up, gather your crew, and get ready for an unforgettable journey filled with thrilling sports, good company, and lasting memories.
June 2024 Mancation Ideas
June 6 – 8, 2024 – New York City, NY
Events: Horse Racing & Major League Baseball
This exciting New York City sports road trip that combines the thrill of major league baseball with the excitement of elite horse racing. Kick off with two electrifying baseball games featuring the New York Yankees, followed by the iconic Belmont Stakes. This mancation takes sports fans to two of the most iconic sports venues in America.
Proposed NYC Mancation Itinerary:
- Thursday, June 6: Minnesota Twins @ New York Yankees
- Friday, June 7: Los Angeles Dodgers @ New York Yankees
- Saturday, June 8: Belmont Stakes horse race
Logistics Notes: The Belmont Stakes horse race is held at the Saratoga Race Course, which is roughly 180 miles north of Manhattan. Be sure you plan your transportation to the race track carefully as it gets very busy on race weekend.
The Belmont Stakes Website has a very useful page on how to get to Saratoga Race Course. You may need to sacrifice the Dodgers / Yankees game on Friday night if you need to make Friday your travel day.
Where to stay: Yankee Stadium is located just north of Manhattan in the Bronx. It’s much more fun to stay in Manhattan and take the subway to the game. I’ve been to NYC many times and my favorite district to stay in is Midtown Manhattan – anywhere between Bryant Park and Central Park.
For the Belmont Stakes, there’s a cluster of hotels around the Saratoga Race Course which would make a good base for the horse race. These hotels will fill up really early, so don’t delay.
June 28 – 29, 2024 – Las Vegas, NV
Events: UFC 303, Soccer and Garth Brooks
Vegas!!!! There are few places on earth more exciting for a mancation than Vegas! And there’s a great opportunity for a Vegas mancation in late June when UFC superstar Conor McGregor returns to the octagon for the first time in two years.
In addition to the UFC pay-per-view card, you can choose between seeing international soccer at Allegiant Stadium or country music superstar Garth Brooks at Caesars Palace. I was lucky enough to see Garth Brooks in concert once, and it’s one of the greatest shows I’ve ever seen – and I’m not even a country music fan!
Proposed UFC in Vegas Mancation Itinerary:
- Friday, June 28: Copa America 2024 – Paraguay v Brazil
- OR Friday June 28: Garth Brooks @ Caesars Palace
- Saturday, June 29: UFC 303 – McGregor vs. Chandler
Where to Stay: The Mandalay Bay is the best choice if you are going with the Copa America / UFC combo, while Caesars Palace is a great choice if you are choosing the Garth Brooks option.
That said, it’s so easy to get around the Las Vegas Strip by Uber/taxi, so any of the mega casino resorts will do for this mancation – simply pick your favorite.
August 2024 Mancation Trip Ideas
August 28 – Sept 1, 2024 – Atlanta, GA
Events: PGA Tour Championship, NCAA Football & Green Day Tour
I love a good mancation which has a wide variety of events to see. This late-August Atlanta mancation is built around the PGA Tour championship tournament, but there’s two awesome events which may pull you away from the East Lake Golf Club.
Green Day kicks off this mancation with their Saviors Tour to Truist Park (home of the MLB Atlanta Braves). Then catch a round or two of PGA golf, before taking Saturday off to see the Aflac Kickoff Game at Mercedes Benz Stadium. This year the game features two Division 1 powerhouses – Clemson vs Georgia.
Finish off your Atlanta mancation by catching the final round of the PGA Tour Championship.
Proposed PGA Mancation Itinerary:
- Wednesday, August 28: Green Day Saviors Tour (with Smashing Pumkins)
- Thursday, August 29: Round 1 of the PGA Tour Championship
- Friday, August 30: Round 2 of the PGA Tour Championship
- Saturday, August 31: Round 3 of the PGA Tour Championship
- OR: Saturday, August 31: Aflac Kickoff Game – Clemson vs. Georgia
- Sunday, September 1: Final Round of the PGA Tour Championship
Where to Stay: Most of this Atlanta mancation revolves around the PGA Tour Championship, but there doesn’t appear to be any hotels in the surrounding area. In this instance, I’d recommend getting a rental car and a hotel in midtown Atlanta, which gives you an exciting, yet central location to base your mancation.

September 2024 Mancation Ideas
September marks the beginning of the NFL season. Don’t miss my post of NFL Trip ideas!
September 6 – 9, 2024 – New York City, NY
Events: US Open Tennis & Major League Baseball
New York City is one of the greatest mancation destinations in the world! This awesome sports road trip focuses on the final weekend of the US Open tennis tournament, and throws in two baseball games with NYC’s iconic ball teams. This itinerary promises a dream trip for tennis and baseball enthusiasts alike!
Proposed NYC Mancation Itinerary:
- Friday, September 6 (Option 1): Cincinnati Reds @ New York Mets
- Friday, September 6 (Option 2): US Open – Men’s Semifinals
- Saturday, September 7: US Open – Women’s Finals
- Sunday, September 8: US Open – Men’s Finals
- Monday, September 9: Kansas City Royals @ New York Yankees
Where to Stay: Given that Citi Field (the home of the Mets) and the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center (home of the US Open Tennis tournament) are located right next to each other, it makes sense to get a hotel near City Field. You can easily catch a subway to Yankee Stadium for the game on Monday.
October 2024 Mancation Ideas
October 18 – 20, 2024 – Austin, TX
Events: F1 Racing, Concerts and NCAA Football
Confession time… I knew nothing about F1 racing until I started watching Drive to Survive on Netflix. And now, just like everyone else who watched the show, I can’t get enough F1 racing. Going to an F1 race is the highest item on my mancation bucket list!
I’m going to try really hard to make it to Austin for the 2024 Formula 1 Pirelli United States Grand Prix. This year’s lineup looks awesome. There are two versions of this F1 guys trip that you can choose from:
Austin F1 Trip Option #1
You can buy a 3-day pass for the F1 event in Austin. This pass includes the practice race on Friday, the F1 Sprint on Saturday and the United States Grand Prix race on Sunday.
As if seeing all that F1 action wasn’t enough, there are two post-racing concerts on the Friday and Saturday. Sting will hit the stage on Friday night, while rap superstar Eminem will perform on Saturday.
(Three day Austin F1 passes without the concerts are also available and are noticeably cheaper).
Austin F1 Trip Option #2
If you’d rather skip the practice and qualifying sessions, you can catch the beloved Texas Longhorns play the Georgia Bulldogs on Saturday afternoon. This is, of course, followed up with the United States Grand Prix race on Sunday. Division I football and an F1 race in the same weekend?!? Amazing!
Where to Stay: The two venues for this mancation are pretty far apart, so staying in downtown Austin hotel would be a good compromise. Downtown Austin is the heart of the city’s nightlife and offers good highway connectivity to the Circuit of the Americas.
